Anxiety and Learning to Embrace Uncertainty.

It’s common to stay in a situation (however big or small) because there is worry about what will happen if we change things, rock the boat, so to speak.
Often times, the anxious voice will tell us to stay put- not change anything- because, it says, we won’t be able to tolerate a negative outcome. So we become risk averse and stay and feel stuck.
When we learn to notice the anxious thoughts- and label them as what they are- we begin to take back our personal agency. We can question the thoughts legitimacy and replace irrational/distorted thoughts with more accurate ones.
We can affirm to ourselves that we CAN take healthy risks...and will be able to tolerate whatever outcome comes our way. We affirm that we are strong, capable- more so than any anxious thought that comes our way.
So doing this anxiety work is certainly context-specific (ie, learning to face certain scary situations), but it’s really more about the PROCESS side of things.
The process piece is all the lessons you are teaching yourself by getting uncomfortable and facing the scary thing (always with skill and compassion!)
You are teaching yourself self trust, self reliance, and that you can be okay being in a space of uncertainty.
As uncertainty is part and parcel of this life...learning to compassionately live alongside it, hold hands with it- but not let it sidetrack you from pursuing meaning and passion- is really quite a valuable gift to give yourself, don’t you think?
As always, would love your thoughts here! How does this land on you?
Have a beautiful day!
